Cobra microtallk PR 240-2 radios. One of the radios transmits and receives on a frequency one channel less than the selected/displayed channel. That is, if channel 7 (462.7125 MHz) is displayed, the radio transmits/receives on channel 6 (462.6875). This is true for all channels. This was confirmed using a frequency scanner. The two radios communicate with each other if the one is on ch 7 the other on ch 8 for example. Can the frequency and channel be aligned?

Ok! well i deffinitally know what the problem is. You need to play with the clarifier, i think all the way to the left is a "course and fine tune" knob. This is generally for use when talking on SSB. but may affect AM if its way off.

The clarifier lets you slide on the freq. some radios will go a full channel some will only go a little or above the center of the channel. You need to play with the clarifier, you probably need to turn the course a lot, untill the audio is almost clear on the channel you want to talk on, than use the fine to tune it in so it sounds like they are sitting right next to you.

what you should do is buy a Frequency counter, you got a nice radio, so the freq. counter wouldent hurt. lets say you want to be on channel 19. you would turn the clarifiers untill i read 27.1850 That would put you right on the money

If you have a frequency counter, and a set of TV repair tools,( a set of special screwdrivers) You can tune the transmit on it. I would not do this unless you are skilled in such things.

The easy thing to do is take it to a cb shop. Usually you can find them at truck stops. They usually charge $30 for an alignment.

as far as the transmit frequency changing while you have the mic keyed this is normal, the transmit frequency is a little different than the receive, as far as the lost channels go you need to check the galaxy website and check to see if thier is any fixes listed. if none is listed then you can send the tech's a e-mail and tell them your problem and they will advise you on what to do.

I'm looking at a price range somewhere in the area of 40 - 120 $$ to buy them new. If YOU can fix them without getting a tech involved then go for it but you will need a frequency counter that covers the range and they don't give them away cheap and the repair cost wouldn't be cheap either. I would buy another pair.

is this set AM and the recievers FM? if so there will be no way round the 'problem' BOB
