Power board malfunction

Hi,

The technician said that my power board is gone. What can I do about this?
Should I scrap the monitor and go for a new one or is this fixable? I would also like to know if the components are available for purchase and/or if it is cheaper to go for a new monitor altogether.

Your advise is much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,

There may be four (4) ways the repair could be done:
1. board - an entirely new power board maybe available from the monitor manufacturer or you can Google for OEM provider;
2. board - a refurbished/reworked board may be available, again you have to Google. Both 1 & 2 would require that you search for the actual PCB assembly number;
3. use the power supply board from an identical unit that has defective LCD panel, inverter or other problems/defect other than the PSU; and
4. component level repair - determine which components in the power supply are defective and needs replacement.

All of the above would require time. Time to look for the replacement board, time to determine which component to replace, time to do the actual repair.

Cost - depends on the tech. Of course board assembly would cost more to purchase but should be relatively easy to perform and therefore should not be expensive in terms of service. On the other hand, component level repair often would be cheaper in terms of parts purchases but would cost more in terms of service fees.

Taking into considerations the above factors, it may be more to your advantage to do the repairs yourself (no service fee). Still should you be uncomfortable on a DIY, then the cost of repairs might justify the purchase of a new LCD monitor instead.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
